Irecently happened to look at my phone bill more closely, and what I saw shocked me.

Alot has changed since the last time I wrote a column. The weather has cooled, the days have shortened, and pumpkins and other harbingers of Halloween (or simply Autumn, depending on your point of view) have sprung up around Northwest Arkansas.

I don’t know how to explain it, and I just can’t help it. It seems to happen to me every year at this time. When the winds start to bring in that cool air from the north, I get this urge to head off across the prairies or into the mountains, far away from people and towns, and feel the cold wind on my face and listen to it as it blows across the tall prairie grasses or through the tree tops.

Where will it all lead? That's a question which often crosses my mind. It's hard to imagine a dissolution of the United States of Amer ica, but the possibility that it could hap pen is probably a lot more real than any one cares to think.
