— City crews removed less trash from the curb for Fall Cleanup this year than the cleanup in fall 2008.

Employees of the street and solid waste departments took nearly 130 tons in the cleanup this year. This was about 20 less tons of trash than had been picked up in the cleanup last fall.

“It was lighter - not as much material out,” said Randy Atkinson, director of the street and solid waste departments.

No large appliances were removed from the curb this year.

The amount of trash that crews have picked up during the fall cleanups has decreased over the past two years.

Crews picked up 181 tons of trash in fall 2007.

About 150 tons were picked up last fall.

Total cost for the cleanups has also decreased over the past two years.

The 2009 Fall Cleanup cost $14,646. This amount included equipment, labor and disposal cost at the landfill. The cleanup costabout $2,200 less than the 2008 one did.

Total cost for the fall 2007 one was $19,758.

Crews spent 40 hours removing trash from the curbs this year.

They worked five hours less this year on the cleanup than they did during the one last fall.

Crews worked 67 hours on the 2007 cleanup.

One thing that did increase in the cleanup this fall was the amount of tires collected.

The city disposed of 203 tires this year compared to 189 in 2008.
