Candy buy-back

Greg Walters Family Dentistry will be buying back unopened Halloween candy from children on Nov. 2 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. for $1 per pound. The candy will then be shipped to troops overseas. This is in participation with the program at www.halloweencandybuyback.com.

Clothing drive

Cub Scout Pack 232, in conjunction with Boy Scout Troop 84, will be collecting winter wear through Nov. 12.

You can drop new and gently used coats, new hats, gloves, and scarves in boxes at the following locations: Walmart, IGA, and Community Christian Fellowship.

Photo scanning

Siloam Springs Museum will be offering free scannings of family photographs and documents that relate to Siloam Springs on Nov. 14 from 2 to 5 p.m.

Gary Darling will be making instant digital copies of the photographs and documents and giving them back with a free CD containing digital copies of what was scanned.

Bring just a few items this time, so as not keep people waiting in line too long.

Siloam Springs Museum will also hosting its 40th anniversary birthday party during this time, so cake and refreshments will be available.

Museum fundraiser

Siloam Springs Museum will be hosting a fundraiser concert and western style dinner Nov. 14 at 6:30 p.m. at Sager Creek Arts Center.

The event will feature a concert by Rexall Rangers who perform western and gospel tunes. This gala evening will also be a celebration of the Museum’s 40th anniversary. Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for children 12 and under. For reservations or additional information, call 524-4011.

Museum anniversary

Siloam Springs Museum will be hosting a birthday party Nov. 14 at 2 p.m. to celebrate its 40th anniversary.

Cake and beverages will be available and a special anniversary exhibit will be open.

Museum exhibit

Siloam Springs Museum will host an exhibit entitled: The Siloam Springs Museum Turns the Big 4-0 from Nov.

13 through Feb. 29. It will feature documents and artifacts that highlight the museum’s history as well as some unusual items from the museum’s collection. The Siloam Springs Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Turkey Trot 5K

The 2009 Turkey Trot 5K Run and One Mile Fun Run will be held on Nov. 21 at 8 a.m., in downtown Siloam Springs. There are several age divisions from 12 years to 65+. Pre-registration has begun. The cost is $15 for the 5K and $12 for students. Registration on the day of the race will be $20. However, the One Mile Fun Run is free. The first 100 registered participants for the 5K will receive a T-shirt.

Medals will be awarded to first, second, and third place winners. Come by the Parks office to register. For more information, call 524-5779.

Parade permits

The City of Siloam Springs application for a parade/demonstration permit requires 48 hours advance notice. The application for a carnival or special event application requires 15 days advance notice. Signs or banners above city rights of way require an application permit. Call 524-5136 to obtain an application.

Line Dance Class

A Line Dance Class for all ages is held every Tuesday night at Siloam Springs Senior Activity Center. The hour-long class begins at 6:15 p.m. and cost $7.50 per session or $30 for five classes. For more information, call (479) 409-0585.

Volunteers needed

For three of the routes a volunteer is needed to deliver Meals on Wheels twice a month.

One route is every Wednesday. It takes less than an hour to deliver meals starting at 11 a.m. To volunteer, call 524-5735.

HIPPY now enrolling

HIPPY is a 30-week school readiness-parent involvement program for parents/guardians of 3, 4 and some 5-year-old children.

Supplies, books and lessons are delivered to the child’s home on a weekly basis by a Home Based Educator. HIPPY is an ABC program funded by the state and local school district which means the program is free for qualified families. For more information, call (479) 238-4212.

Volunteers needed

New Beginnings Resale Store and Incentive Boutique is in need of volunteers to assist running this non-profit organization. The store is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Manna Center

Manna Center Thrift Store is open to the public Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. there is a half-price sale each Wednesday. New merchandise is received daily and there are always sale items available. Manna Center is located at 670 Heritage Court in Siloam Springs, behind the Senior Activity Center.

Photograph exhibit

A new exhibit is on display at Siloam Springs Museum. A rare chance to see: “Photographs of Siloam Springs at the Turn of the Century, During the Roaring 20s and During the Hungry Years.” All photographs are on loan from the Don Cundiff Collection. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 524-4011 for more information.

Breast cancer support group

The Pink Divas breast cancer support group is forming in Siloam Springs. The group will meet at Siloam Springs Senior Activity Center at 750 Heritage Court at 1:30 p.m.

NAMI Connections

NAMI Connections is a weekly recovery support group for people living with mental illness in which people learn from each others’ experiences, share coping strategies, and offer each other encouragement and understanding. The group meets on Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Community Christian Fellowship at 525 S. Lincoln St. in Siloam Springs.

Free breast exams

Community Clinic in Siloam Springs is offering free breast exams through the Clinical Breast Exam Clinic.

The CBE Clinic is always the second Tuesday and last Thursday of the month at the clinic. Breast exams are freeas well as mammograms and biopsies, if needed. For more information, call 524-9550.

Metal detector group

Coin and Relic Metal Detectors meets each month on the third Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Community Building. There are metal detector instructions, discussions and programs. The meeting is for learning and sharing, no dues. Call 524-3084 if interested or just come on meeting day.

Used books for sale

The Friends of The Siloam Springs Library invites everyone to come shop and save at the used bookstore in the foyer of the library.

The bookstore is open during regular library hours. All proceeds go to support programs and purchase materials and equipment for the library.

Donations of used books are always welcome.

Square Dance Club

The Arkoma-Whirlaways Square Dance Club meets on the second and fourth Thursdays at 8 p.m. at St. Mary’s Recreation Hall. For more information, call 524-8554.
