— Alma quarterback Burke Broadfoot threw five touchdown passes and accounted for 311 yards of offense as the Airedales cleared their final hurdle before a firstplace showdown with a 33-7 victory Friday over Siloam Springs at Glenn Black Stadium.

Class 5A’s No. 5 Airedales (5-3-1, 5-1 5A-West) now set their sights on next week’s finale against No. 1 Greenwood (8-1, 6-0) with the 5AWest Conference title on the line.

“Everybody wanted to get this game out of the way because everyone wanted to talk about Greenwood,” Alma coach Todd Dilbeck said. “Well it’s out of the way now so we can focus on Greenwood.”

Alma put together a workmanlike if unspectacular game against the Panthers (3-6, 0-6).

Broadfoot was 14 of 22 for 241 yards passing while the defenseintercepted Siloam Springs quarterback Bryan Adair three times and allowed only 89 yards passing.

Alma built a 14-0 halftime lead behind the running and passing of Broadfoot.

He ran for 41 yards on Alma’s opening drive, but passed 11 yards to Mikai Williams for the touchdown for a 6-0 lead.

The Airedales passed for much of their next scoring drive in the second quarter. Broadfoot was 3-of-3 for 70 yards on the drive, including a 46-yard pass to a wideopen Nathan Workman for the touchdown with 3:34 left in the first half.

Broadfoot passed to Isaac Mc-Coy for the two-point conversion for a 14-0 halftime lead.

The Panthers struggled offensively much of the game. They turned the ball over on downs on their first possession of the sec-ond half after taking over at Alma’s 40.

Broadfoot took advantage, passing 30 yards toWilliams to take a 20-0 lead midway through the third quarter.

After forcing a punt, Broadfoot passed 17 yards to Workman for a 26-0 lead with three minutes left in the third quarter.

Broadfoot’s fifth touchdown pass, 6 yards to Mc-Coy on fourth down, gave the Airedales a 33-0 lead with six minutes left in the game.

The Panthers answered with a four-play, 73-yard scoring drive against the second-team defense. JakeSmith ran 21 yards for the touchdown with 4:48 left.

Adair was handicapped by the loss of his two leading receivers. Stuart Cifuentes was injured on the game’s opening series after catching a teamleading two passes for 31 yards. Chris Villasenor missed the game because of a family emergency.

“We knew they were a good defensive team,” Siloam Springs Coach Bryan Ross said. “We just couldn’t do enough to threaten them.”

Workman caught 5 passes for 111 yards and Williams had 4 receptions for 91.

“It’s funny how you match up,” Dilbeck said. “The matchup was we could match up our receivers to their [defensive backs] and it was to our advantage.”
