SILOAM SPRINGS The Pelosi version of ObamaCare will be voted on by the House of Representatives sometime this week. The bill containing 1,990 pages was published a few days ago, and Speaker Pelosi promised to post it on the internet so that everyone would have 72 hours to read it before any vote was taken. While I didn’t have any desire to read it, I wondered how fast someone would have to read to accomplish the task in three days.
The way I figure it, a person could read only 16 hours a day at best. The other 8 hours would be used for eating, sleeping and for other necessities of life. For the moment, put it out of your mind that anyone who would actually do such a thing really needs to get a life. So, that means this person would read for 48 hours over the 3 days. I divided 1,990 pages by 48 hours and found that this person, who needs to get a life, would read about 42plus pages per hour, or nearly 7 pages every 10 minutes. How many of you read something you really like and can understand at that speed? If so, it must take you all of 30 seconds to read my ever-so-enjoyable masterpieces.
Opt-out
While not as long as the House bill, the Senate version is equally boring, confusing and full of all sorts of gobbeldy-gook. At the last minute, the three senators of Democrat persuasion that crafted this bill inserted an opt-out provision. That means if a state decides it doesn’t want to participate in this scheme of socialized medicine, all ithas to do is have its legislature vote to not be part of the plan. Of course, its citizenry would still have to pay taxes to support all of the other states that opted-in. This is reminiscent of when Congress set the national speed limit of 55 mph years ago. States were also able to opt-out and set their own speed limits. But those who opted out would get no federal highway money. With do respect to Mario Puzzo’s “Godfather” both sound to me like an offer we can refuse.
Our attention diverted
Since most of the focus lately has been on ObamaCare, a few noteworthy items have slipped beneath the radar, but being the curious sort that I am, I have uncovered a few tidbits. I find them interesting. I hope you will too.
At my great peril of never again being invited to the Obama White House (come to think about it, Inever have been invited) I continue to watch Fox News. By my own admission, I have crossed the line laid down by the president. He and his closest advisers have declared war on that channel. None of his staff is permitted to appear on Fox News, and he has warned the White House press corps to not pay attention to what it reports about the president or the White House.
Unfortunately, if members of the sycophantic press heed the warning they will continue to miss breaking news and continuous coverage about Obama’s left-leaning Czar appointments. Examples are:
They haven’t disclosed that his appointment for Diversity Czar at the FCC is an avid admirer of Hugo Chavez’ Socialist Revolution in Venezuela. Good old Hugo has closed most of the radio stations for reporting what he really is doing.Policy was a board member of the International Socialist Society.
There has been no coverage about his director of communications who consults Chairman Mao’s thoughts when times are tough for her. She actually said so while addressing a high school graduation ceremony at the National Cathedral last spring.
I haven’t heard a peep from them that his newNote: the FCC is in charge of granting and renewing broadcast licenses. They completely overlooked the fact that he had appointed an avowed Communist as Green Jobs Czar, until after he resigned.
They have not reported that his Czarina for EnergyManufacturing Czar agrees with the murderous Chicom founder Mao, that lasting change comes with the barrel of a gun and that free markets are a myth.
Nowhere have I heard or seen them report that the President is still in continuous campaign mode, having made 28 fund raising trips so far, compared to only six by this time for George W. Bush, and five for Bill Clinton.
It’s probably been since FDR when we had so many commies, socialists and their admirers around the president. I’ve seen actual taped events involving some of these people on the dreaded Glenn Beck program on the forbidden Fox News Channel.
I report, you decide.
