— Sales tax increased here 1 percent Oct. 1, but the town won’t know how much money it will collect until early December.

Businesses must submit the tax they collected on goods sold in October by Nov. 20, said Dave Francis, city/county coordinator for the Oklahoma Tax Commission.

The state Tax Commission would cut a check to the town by Dec. 10.

The only receipts the town might receive earlier from the new tax would be from one-day sales where vendors would submit the tax they’d collected from thatsale before the deadline, Francis said.

Receipts from the town’s 1-cent sales tax will help pay for emergency medical service forthe town.

“Our sales tax is in place,” Mayor Elaine Carr said.

Voters approved the tax increase by a 93 percent margin April 7.

Sales tax increased from 8.25 percent to 9.25 percent, because of the vote.
