Siloam Springs capture 3 out of 4 conference titles

— The Siloam Springs cross country teams won three of four races Saturday at the 5A-West Conference meet at the Simmons Food, Inc. headquarters.

The varsity boys took first place in their race while the junior high girls and boys won their respective races.

The Panthers received 36 points to finish first in the varsity boys race followed by Vilonia with 44 and Harrison with 58. Greenwood (100), Alma (107) and Greenbrier (120) rounded out the race.

Sophomore team captain Trey Henry led the Panthers with a third place finish and an overall time of 18 minutes, 27.62 seconds.

Marcos Gutierrez placed sixth, while Kevin Tello was eighth, Chad Monreal ninth and Wesley Packard 10th.

Brian Frias finished 12th, with Will Scarborough right behind in 13th. Also running were Jorge Osejo, who finished 20th, Ryan Morgan 21st, Anthony Stokes 22nd, Jon Coody 31st, Chevy Clark 35th, Kyle Henry 44th, Jared Clark 45th, Luis Bernal 58th, and Karl Anderson62nd.

The senior high girls finished in third place with 61 points behind first-place Greenbrier (56) and Greenwood (57).

The Lady Panthers were without senior Lauren Gay, who was with the Siloam Springs volleyball team at the state championship in Jonesboro.

Rachel Hill was the Lady Panthers’ top finisher in third place overall with a time of 22:11.38

It was Siloam Springs’ first team race all season

“Individually, they have run well all season,” said cross country coach Sharon Jones. “But it was good to see them run as a team on Saturday.” Rachel Hill finished first for the team and 3rd place overall with a time of 22:11.38.

Leah Anderson finished 10th overall, followed closely by Andrea Perry at 11th, Rylee Sanders at 18th, and Emily Anderson came in 19th place.

The junior high girls got the day started on a good note with a score of 18 points. Greenwood was second with 51 points and Vilonia third with 76.

The Lady Panthers claimed 10 out of the top 13 spots.

Bailey Perdue ran a12:58.31 to win the race by almost a minute over her teammate McKenzie Svebek.

Fourth and fifth places went to Lady Panthers Morgan Jackson and Karina Lozano of Siloam, respectively. Rebecca Hill was the fifth scorer for the Lady panthers.

The junior high girls’ team has won seven out of the nine meets they’ve competed in this year and finished runner-up at the Chile Pepper Festival.

“I am very proud of these girls and their accomplishments this year,” Jones said. “If they keep running, we will be making a run at the women’s state title in the next few years.”

Tyler Low led the junior high boys’ team, finished first with a time of 11:46.5, as the Panthers scored 27 points.

Chris Thurstenson came in third while Matthew Odom was sixth, Christian Smith eighth and Zane Washington was the fifth panther to score coming in ninth place.

Harrison was secondwith 51, and Alma was third 67.

“These boys have really stepped up to the challenge,” Jones said. “After moving up ninth grader Will Scarborough to the varsity team and ninth grade teammate, Corbin Greening, broke his arm, itput a lot of pressure on the others to run up to their potential. I knew they could do it. I am very pleased with their performances. Tyler Low is going to be one to watch in the future. He has peaked at just the right time for us.”
