SILOAM SPRINGS Book fair
Allen Elementary will be having a Scholastic Book Fair through Oct. 23 in the library.
The book fair will be open each day from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. During parent teacher conferences on Oct. 22, the book fair will be open until 6:15 p.m. A portion of all sales goes to the library.
Open House
Northeast Technology Center’s Kansas campus will host its annual Fall Festival and Open House on Oct. 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. The campus is located on Highway 59 / Highway 10 just south of the Cherokee Turnpike in Kansas.
The Fall Festival is open to the public and will feature many fun and exciting events. A chicken dinner will be served at 6 p.m.
There will also be both a live auction and silent auction held, with proceeds benefiting the Northeast Technology Foundation Scholarship Fund, a nonprofit foundation that provides scholarships and financial assistance on a need-basis to NTC students.

Cemetery cleanup
The annual fall cleanup at the Springtown Cemetery will start at 9 a.m. on Oct. 24.
Those who have an interest in helping with the maintenance should bring rakes, hedge clippers and other tools. Refreshments will be provided. For more information, call 736-2478.
Fall Festival
The Kansas police and fire departments will be hosting a Kansas Fall Festival on Oct.
24, at Kansas Community Center. Events for the day will include a garage sale, chili cook-off, marble and horseshoe tournaments, pie auction, and games for the children. The garage sale will begin at 8 a.m. To enter the chili cook-off you may pick up anentry form at any of the following locations: Kansas Police Department, Kansas Fire Department, or Kansas City Hall. Chili cook-off entry deadline is Oct. 23, at noon.
The fee to enter the chili cook-off is $25 per person and $35 per team. The judging will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 24 and winners announced at 1 p.m. The marble and horseshoe tournaments will accept entries until play time at 10 a.m. on Oct.

Republican Women
The Siloam Springs Republican Women will meet Oct. 26 at the Signature Bank Community Room, located at 200 Progress Ave. Coffee time is 6:30 p.m. and the program is at 7 p.m. Republican Women leaders will be special guests and will be featured on the program.
Halloween change
Quail Ridge Rehab and Living Center in West Siloam Springs Oklahoma will not hold their annual trick or treating inside the facility this year. We will have a table set up down town with the rest of the community on Oct. 30 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Siloam Springs Nursing and Rehab Center is having their community Trick or Treat on Oct. 30 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Flu seminar
A free flu seminar will be held Nov. 1, at 3 p.m. at Total Life Center, 13710 S. Hwy. 59 in Siloam Springs. The speaker will be Anne-Marie Scott.

The 2009 Northwest Arkansas Invitational Marching Classic, a contest for high school marching bands, will be held in Siloam Springs Oct. 31 beginning at 11:30 a.m.

Candy buy-back
Greg Walters Family Dentistry will be buying back unopened Halloween candy from children on Nov. 2 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. for $1 per pound. The candy will then be shipped to troops overseas. This is in participation with the program at www.halloweencandybuyback.com.

Museum fundraiser
Siloam Springs Museum will be hosting a fundraiser concert and western style dinner Nov. 14 at 6:30 p.m. at Sager Creek Arts Center.
The event will feature a concert by Rexall Rangers who perform western and gospel tunes.
This gala evening will also be a celebration of the Museum’s 40th anniversary.

Siloam Springs Museum will be hosting a birthday party Nov. 14 at 2 p.m. to celebrate its 40th anniversary.

Museum exhibit
Siloam Springs Museum will host an exhibit entitled: The Siloam Springs Museum Turns the Big 4-0 from Nov.
13 through Feb. 29.
It will feature documents and artifacts that highlight the museum’s history as well as some unusual items from the museum’s collection.
The Siloam Springs Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
Parade permits
The City of Siloam Springs application for a parade/demonstration permit requires 48 hours advance notice. The application for a carnival or special event application requires 15 days advance notice. Line Dance Class
A Line Dance Class for all ages is held every Tuesday night at Siloam Springs Senior Activity Center. The hour-long class begins at 6:15 p.m. and cost $7.50 per session. The class is taught by Millie Sanabria-Terry and Mike Evans.

Volunteers needed
For three of the routes a volunteer is needed to deliver Meals on Wheels twice a month.
One route is every Wednesday. It takes less than an hour to deliver meals starting at 11 a.m. To volunteer, call 524-5735.
HIPPY now enrolling
HIPPY is a 30-week school readiness-parent involvement program for parents/guardians of 3, 4 and some 5-year-old children.
Supplies, books and lessons are delivered to the child’s home on a weekly basis by a Home Based Educator.
HIPPY is an ABC program funded by the state and local school district which means the program is free for qualified families. For more information, call (479) 238-4212.

New Beginnings Resale Store and Incentive Boutique is currently in need of volunteers to assist running this nonprofit organization.

Photograph exhibit
A new exhibit is on display at Siloam Springs Museum.
A rare chance to see: “Photographs of Siloam Springs at the Turn of the Century, During the Roaring 20s and During the Hungry Years.” All photographs are on loan from the Don Cundiff Collection.

Breast cancer support group
The Pink Divas breast cancer support group is forming in Siloam Springs.
The group will meet at Siloam Springs Senior Activity Center at 750 Heritage Court at 1:30 p.m. every Thursday.
The group plans to schedule field trips and social events while offering hospital visitation and personal communication.
