COLCORD, Okla Colcord Hornets traveled to face the Adair Warriors and came away with a 35-7 victory and a shot at the upcoming playoffs.
Colcord was sitting fourth in district 2A-8 but to get into the playoffs they needed to win at least two of their final three games.
Adair came into the game 6-1 and 3-1 in district, Adair was said to have one of the top three defenses in 2A. Colcord came in 4-3 and 3-1 in district. Both team’s district loss came at the hands of the Vian Wolverines.
Colcord’s first drive began from their own 35 yard line. With carries from Ethan Shelley and Cannaan Sherrell, the Hornets were forced to three and out. On fourth down, Sherrell punted the ball away.
Colcord’s second drive began on their own 26-yard line. Colcord built their first scoring drive of the night completely on the ground. Colcord gained their first of four first downs with an 11-yard rush by Darwin Davis. During the drive, Sherrell, Shelley and Chris Aguilar each helped move the ball. With 4:51 left in the first quarter, Colcord was first to put pointson the scoreboard.
With 9:44 left before half time, Colcord scored their second touchdown. This time, Colcord went for a two point conversion.
The first attempt was good but there was an offensive pass interference calland Colcord was forced to back up and try it again. They completed the pass for the conversion and the score was 14-0.
In the second half, Adair mounted their only scoring drive of the night through the air using eight plays and covering 65 yards.
They gained 4 first downs and make the score 21-7.
Colcord will travel to Kansas, 4-4 and 2-2 in district, next week and the will wrap up the regular season at home against Tahlequah-Sequoyah on Nov. 6 at
