The Siloam Springs community was stunned Monday by the death of junior Cody Noble, a wide receiver on the Panthers football team. “It’s obviously a shock to our community and school,” Siloam Athletic Director Kerwin Dees said. “Pretty awful news to the community.” Siloam canceled its junior varsity football game Monday night against Springdale Har-Ber.

Decatur suspends football for 2009 season

As a former high school standout at Little Rock McClellan, Bobby King has a great understanding of how special high school football is. King, who is the athletic director and high school principal at Decatur, canceled the Bulldogs' varsity football season, citing a lack of participation. The Bulldogs opened fall practice on Aug. 3 with three players present. The next day only five showed up. Participation peaked at seven and King said Monday he'd give the program until Wednesday to find enough players.
